Another reel from the Ceriale native who shot the shocking video immediately after the accident that claimed the life of Sofia Barberi, 23, and seriously injured her passenger on the scooter, who had her foot amputated and is still in critical condition.
"I think my plan to live a happy, beautiful life in Italy has failed. All of Italy hates us, remigration," he says, quoting General Roberto Vannacci and smiling, filming himself as he's about to board a low-cost airline flight at Malpensa Airport. "This accident has ruined my life," he continues. "I have to change my life, look at this, damn it... Luckily I take it all in stride, otherwise here..." The boy left this morning, probably for Holland.
Meanwhile, the Carabinieri, coordinated by the Savona prosecutor's office, have completed their investigation and filed a report on the accident that occurred shortly after 1 a.m. between Friday and Saturday while the occupants of the Cinquecento were on their way to a nightclub. The driver was a young woman who had just turned 18 and had obtained her license three months earlier. In the car were two friends. The Cinquecento apparently crossed into the oncoming lane, striking the scooter carrying Sofia and the other woman. The impact was so violent that it threw the two women from their seats and destroyed the two-wheeler.
While the two girls were already on the ground, a shocking video of one of the occupants of the Cinquecento laughingly declaring, "I swear, this one's dead..." was posted on his Instagram profile. A few hours later, the same boy apologized on the same channel, claiming he hadn't realized the gravity of what had happened, but the video sparked a wave of outrage . The anger over those words was so great that a small group of people, evidently recognizing him, gathered at his home on Saturday evening to hurl insults and threats. The boy's parents were frightened and, after barricading themselves in their home, called the police.
No criminal charges have been brought to light at this time, but the young man's situation may be examined by a magistrate. The case also includes analysis of footage recorded by the city's surveillance cameras and testimonies from residents who witnessed the accident. The woman in the Fiat Cinquecento, whose license was immediately revoked, has already been charged with vehicular homicide and aggravated personal injury.
