He struck his ex-partner's parents with his car after they had just reported him to the police. The two ended up in the hospital but their lives were not in danger, and he was arrested for attempted murder. It happened in Melito, a town just outside Naples, at the height of a disagreement between a couple who had been living together for a while, arguing over whether to spend Christmas with their daughter. Shortly after giving birth to their daughter, the two partners separated.

The story, destined to escalate into violence, begins when the father—19 years old, with a criminal record, and an employee at a car body shop—demands that the little girl spend December 25th with him and his family. The girl's mother disagrees, and the two parents meet to discuss the matter at her home in Melito, and the confrontation escalates into a heated argument . The young mother's parents intervene to attempt mediation, but the 19-year-old orders them to stay out of the matter and, at the height of the argument, threatens to kill them if they don't leave. The girl's maternal grandparents—aged 49 and 48—oblige, but only to go to the Carabinieri station in Melito and report him.

However, he followed them in his car, remaining stationed outside and patiently waiting for the two to emerge, after having reported everything to the police. As soon as he saw them, he shifted into first gear and struck them both, throwing them into the air, before speeding away. Numerous passersby witnessed the scene and administered first aid to the injured. The Carabinieri also rushed from the nearby barracks: the two were taken to the Frattamaggiore hospital, badly injured but not in danger of dying. The son-in-law was located shortly thereafter by the same police at his home in the nearby town of Giugliano and arrested on charges of attempted double murder.
