Colpaccio in the Bulgari jewelry store in via Condotti , the most famous luxury shopping street in the heart of Rome, a stone's throw from Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Navona.
The thieves entered the jewelry store through a hole in the floor which led them to a service room. Once inside they smashed the windows and stole the jewels inside, then left with a huge loot of around 500 thousand euros .
The alarm system went off just before midnight and the police from the Rome Flying Squad are investigating the case.
The forensic men carried out extensive surveys and inspected the hole in the floor, which connected the shop to the basement of a building . The images from the cameras are being examined.
