He attacked his girlfriend by putting his hands on her neck, then in an attempt to apologize he behaved like a stalker: this is the accusation that a young Italian man must answer to in a trial that began today in Turin.

The alleged victim, a civil party with the lawyer Francesca Violante, is a 23-year-old resident in a municipality in the Turin hills. The attack in the summer of 2022 in a room of the tourist village in Sardinia where they both worked: the young man, drunk, suddenly grabbed his girlfriend by the neck.

"I decided to leave him," the girl said, "and I left with my dad for a very short vacation abroad. I did nothing but rest in the accommodation: my whole body hurt and because of the bruises on my neck I couldn't even swallow." "I thought," she added, "that he would accept my choice but when I noticed that he was always hanging around my house I understood that I wasn't in control of the situation."

On September 20, when he showed up at the house with a bouquet of flowers, the family called the police. "He was calm," said one of the members of the patrol, "and said he wanted to 'clarify a situation.' But at home the girl was deeply shaken. She said she didn't even want to look at him. To leave, he called a taxi." The defendant then contacted some of the girl's friends via social media after having identified them on Instagram.

"He sent me messages," said a former classmate, "and I asked him what he wanted: he wrote that he was drunk that night and that he was going through a difficult time because he had lost his father a few months earlier." "He sent me messages at three in the morning," said a friend. "He explained what he had done and why. He even apologized to me in a way that I found rather strange. She had already told me what had happened, so I took screenshots and, on October 12, I handed them over to the police."
