He attempted to rape a woman by threatening her with a knife and holding a gun to her head. Carabinieri officers from the Dalmine station, in the province of Bergamo, arrested a 42-year-old Italian man with a criminal record and resident in Val Seriana. He is charged with attempted kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault, aggravated menacing, and illegal possession of a weapon.
The incident occurred on the evening of July 1st, when the man forced the victim into a car. He then began threatening her, showing her a knife and pointing a gun at her head, attempting to force her to have sex. Taking advantage of a moment of distraction from his attacker and the slow traffic, the woman jumped from the moving vehicle, suffering numerous abrasions.
A passing motorist rescued her and took her to the Carabinieri station in Dalmine. After providing first aid and calling 118, the Carabinieri began an investigation and, thanks to analysis of video surveillance footage, were able to identify the car: it belonged to the man's mother. A search of the home and car confirmed the presence of items matching the description provided by the victim, who recalled, for example, a specific sticker on the rear window.
The Bergamo Prosecutor's Office requested and obtained a precautionary detention order.
