"Defense is always legitimate." This is how Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni commented on the case of a property owner in Rovigo who injured a burglar during an attempted robbery at his home and is not being investigated under the new self-defense rules.

The Mobile Squad is investigating the case: the incident occurred in a house in Grignano. Two or three bandits were involved, one of whom was wounded by a gunshot fired by the homeowner. The shooter, a 68-year-old, is reportedly not under investigation under the new self-defense law.

The Rovigo prosecutor's office, in a statement, emphasizes that "it is proceeding against unknown persons for the crime, in the prosecution's hypothesis, of attempted robbery aggravated by the fact that the perpetrators were armed and disguised, having committed the crimes inside a residential building."

Meanwhile, police have interviewed the 68-year-old man and other witnesses, while reviewing local surveillance cameras to identify the group that operated while masked by balaclavas. It is known that one of the attackers was injured after the 68-year-old man reacted with no hesitation in using his gun, possibly firing multiple shots, when he suddenly found himself confronted by the bandits after they broke into his home.

For this reason, the Rovigo police headquarters alerted local hospitals to determine if anyone had sought medical treatment for a gunshot wound, but so far the search has been unsuccessful.
