Three men tried to break into his home . He noticed and didn't think twice: he lunged at the strangers, punched them, and knocked one of them off the balcony. "I did it to protect my family," Liviu Aepetri, a 38-year-old Romanian truck driver who has been living in Italy since 2006, told the Gazzettino newspaper.
The incident occurred late Thursday evening in Oderzo, in the province of Treviso. Aepetri heard noises. "The tenant of the apartment above ours left, but he still left some things behind." He thought it was him.
“But the noise continued, so I went out onto the terrace and found myself facing three strangers,” the truck driver told the newspaper. “It was dark, because they had even removed the outside light, so I couldn’t see them well.”
His reaction was immediate: "I just thought they were thieves trying to break into our house, where my wife and three girls, aged 10, 8, and 2, live. Instinctively, I threw myself at the person closest to me, hitting him hard, knocking him off the terrace, a height of about three meters. The other two certainly weren't expecting me to react this way and tried to escape."
He also attacked them, hitting them and forcing them to flee: they disappeared into the night on board a car.
