A young man died after being shot by police officers in Milan's Via Impastato, in the Rogoredo neighborhood.
The victim is believed to be a 20-year-old of North African origin. According to initial reconstructions, the young man approached a patrol of plainclothes officers brandishing a pistol, which later turned out to be a blank.
It's still unclear what happened, but the police officers reportedly opened fire, and the young man collapsed to the ground. An ambulance later arrived on the scene, but attempts to save the young man were unsuccessful.
Reactions to the incident were immediate, including political ones. "I'm on the police officer's side, no ifs, ands, or buts," said League leader Matteo Salvini.
"I won't go into the specific incident. But regarding the general security climate, the government has said everything is fine, despite the increased numbers of rapes, robberies, and various other incidents of violence," was the first comment from M5S leader Giuseppe Conte.
