The reform of community medicine, which provided, via a decree law, for the inclusion of family doctors in community homes and the transfer of some of them to dependent care, has reportedly been withdrawn.
According to ministerial sources, the decision was communicated by Marco Mattei, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Health, to the regional health councilors.
The decree should be replaced by an agreement to be approved through an amendment to a government act or included in the directive document for the agreement with family medicine, which is close to being renewed.
The bill, presented by Health Minister Orazio Schillaci to the Conference of the Regions and subsequently revised by them, had never been formally presented but had become the subject of controversy and conflict with the unions, who demanded to be involved in decisions that directly affect them.
Finally, internal dissent had emerged within the center-right, with some parties pushing for a step back.
