Government towards the extension of the state of emergency until March 31st
Draghi's initiative, convinced by the pressure of the parties and the British data on Omicron
The government would be willing to extend the state of emergency for Covid-19 until March 31.
Another three months beyond the current deadline, to ferry the country out of the cold season in the hope that the following winter the pandemic will be just a bad memory.
The acceleration was given by Mario Draghi himself to give a clear signal on the priorities relating to the pandemic situation.
Already tomorrow, Tuesday 14 December, the Council of Ministers could be called to extend the Covid emergency, declared on January 31, 2020.
In the turn of the executive, which did not seem directed towards this decision, the British data on Omicron weigh. But also the pressure of some majority parties, today both Enrico Letta ("The decision is now ripe, I think it is necessary") and Giuseppe Conte ("We are in favor") have expressed themselves in favor of the extension, and Matteo Salvini himself does not he closed the possibility ("We will see the data", his words).
The government must produce an act with the force of law, because the current state of emergency can last a maximum of 24 months, therefore until January 2022.
With the extension, the government will be able to continue to resort to the Dpcm, the Regions will be able to sign the ordinances and the Technical Scientific Committee and the Extraordinary Commissioner would continue their activities. Furthermore, the rules on smart working would remain.
