Glovo Group companies and Deliveroo Italy are under scrutiny by the Antitrust Authority for their treatment of delivery drivers. The Italian Competition Authority has opened an investigation into Glovoapp23 SA, Foodinho Srl, Glovo Infrastructure Services Italy Srl, and Deliveroo Italy Srl for possible "illegal conduct in the food delivery business."
The companies are said to have highlighted, in their communications to consumers (for example, in their code of ethics and on their website in the "about us" sections), "a corporate image based on respect for ethical standards and social responsibility that does not correspond to reality," according to a statement.
This was particularly true with regard to working conditions and compliance with the law "in the management of riders, also with reference to the operating model and algorithm used by the two companies."
Yesterday, officials from the Authority, with the assistance of the Special Antitrust Unit of the Guardia di Finanza, carried out inspections at the offices of Foodinho Srl and Glovo Infrastructure Services Italy Srl, and at the headquarters of Deliveroo Italy Srl.
Deliveroo states: "We are fully cooperating with the Antitrust Authority. We will continue to interact transparently with all relevant authorities to demonstrate that we operate responsibly and in compliance with the law. We remain committed," the statement continues, "to supporting the tens of thousands of riders, local merchants, and the millions of consumers who rely on our platform every day across Italy. We are confident in the fairness of our business practices."
