The latest data from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (Mase) also confirm the surge in fuel prices.
The complaint, repeatedly in recent days, has come from the National Consumers Union, which records "a surge, in just one week, of almost 3.8 cents for petrol, equivalent to 1 euro and 88 cents for a full tank of 50 litres, and of over 4.9 cents for diesel, equivalent to 2 euros and 47 cents per refuelling".
Hence the decision announced by President Massimiliano Dona to present "a complaint to the Antitrust on the anomalous trend of fuels. In particular, given the countless previous archiving of the Authority, we referred to the recent reorganization of excise duties provided for by the decree of 14 May 2025 which should have been, for the individual consumer, a one-off transaction, with diesel that should have cost 1.50 cents more per litre, 1.83 also counting the 22% VAT and petrol that should have decreased correspondingly. In this case, in fact, the trend of international wholesale prices cannot be used as a pretext, as a justification, given that the decree was only valid for Italy and that the trend of oil influences both diesel and petrol in the same way. In short, the increase in the price of diesel should have corresponded to a similar decrease in petrol. But this was not the case".
