A criminal conspiracy aimed at extorting and defrauding the elderly, carried out using the "fake marshal" and "fake lawyer" techniques , has been dismantled by the State Police between Veneto and Campania.
Eleven precautionary measures were executed by the Padua Police Headquarters' Flying Squad at the request of the Padua Public Prosecutor's Office, ordered by the investigating judge of the Euganean Court.
The raid began at 4:00 a.m. yesterday with one hundred officers from the Padua Police Headquarters, in collaboration with their colleagues from the Naples Police Headquarters Flying Squad. They executed precautionary measures in Naples and throughout the Campania region against members of a criminal organization led by a 32-year-old man with multiple criminal records, a member of a well-known Camorra clan operating in the Forcella district. He has a criminal record for mafia-style criminal association, property crimes, drug crimes, attempted murder, and a custodial order. A 22-year-old woman was also arrested. The other nine members of the gang, all from Campania, will be subject to alternative measures, such as being ordered to remain in their homes.
All are charged with "criminal conspiracy aimed at committing an unspecified series of extortion and fraud crimes against elderly and vulnerable people."
During the investigation, 15 scams were discovered in northern and central Italy: two in Padua, Venice, Como, Bolzano, and Teramo, and one each in Verona, Trento, Cuneo, Modena, and Ascoli Piceno.
Over €400,000 in stolen goods, including cash, jewelry, and valuables, were recovered and returned to the victims.
