A fire broke out in the engine room of the Moby ferry Raffaele Rubattino, which, with 155 passengers on board, was located northwest of the island of Capri, about fifteen miles from the port of Naples.
The ship, which departed Palermo this morning with passengers and vehicles aboard, was adrift and unable to navigate autonomously. Therefore, it was picked up by tugboats.
The captain issued a mayday call over the radio, and rescue operations were launched, coordinated by the Naples Port Authority, which dispatched two patrol boats to the scene. The flames were under control, and there were no injuries.
