Nonna Silvi, the chef and influencer who rose to national and international fame thanks to her social media posts about traditional Tuscan cuisine, has died at the age of 85. Silvana Bini passed away last night at her home in Montespertoli, in the province of Florence.
Her grandchildren announced the news in a message posted on the official "nonnasilvi" page. "A sudden illness took Nonna Silvi in just 20 days. She left us surrounded by the love of her family, with her children and grandchildren at her side. Even in those moments, she continued to talk to us, asking what needed doing and how work was going. A unique woman, of rare strength, who gave every bit of energy she had in her body to her family."
The post also announced that "the company will be closed for two days of mourning. Then we will start again, more determined than ever, taking with us everything she taught us. With Grandma watching over us from up there, we will do everything we can to keep the dream we shared alive."
Nonna Silvi's social media adventure began in 2022, when her grandsons Gabriele and Simone Martini began making videos of her cooking at Forno Martini in Castelfiorentino, the family-owned business. The content quickly went viral, leading her to amass approximately 4.3 million followers on Instagram, 2.1 million on TikTok, and over a million on Facebook.

In 2024, she traveled to Qatar to cook for the Al-Thani royal family. The following year, she received a Forbes award and the 2025 TikTok Award. Her funeral is scheduled for Monday afternoon in Montespertoli, in the Church of Sant'Andrea.
"Farewell to Nonna Silvi, an extraordinary Tuscan who won the hearts of millions. With her smile, her charm, and her traditional recipes, Silvana Bini brought the warmth and authenticity of Tuscan cuisine into our homes." Tuscany Region President Eugenio Giani wrote on social media. "From Montespertoli, she managed to become known and loved throughout the world, without ever losing her spontaneity and the outspoken nature that made her so special," he added. "We will miss her recipes, her jokes, and her cheerfulness. A warm hug to her family and all those who loved her. Goodbye, Nonna Silvi."
