Fresh blood in the lungs and crushing. These, according to several sources, are some of the findings from the autopsy performed on the body of Abderrahim Fakir, the 42-year-old who died after being stopped by two officers in Bologna.
Regarding these two elements, it will remain to be determined in the future whether the crushing was due to excessive force applied while the man was alive or occurred post-mortem during resuscitation. Likewise, it remains to be determined whether the presence of blood in the lungs was due to Fakir's possible use of cocaine or to excessive compression.
The lawyers for the Fakir family see it differently. "I believe there could be an undeniable asphyxiation from compression, but we must await the conclusions," stated the Fakir family's lawyer, Fabio Anselmo, thanking Professor Vittorio Fineschi "for the scientific contribution he is making to reaching the truth."
Gabriele Bordoni, the lawyer for the two police officers: "From what I was told by my trusted medical examiner, the careful analysis conducted during the autopsy revealed nothing that indicated excessive or violent action by the two officers."
