The man arrested yesterday in Turin for causing the explosion of a building in via Nizza on June 30, is Giovanni Zippo, 40 years old, resident in the Piedmontese capital and who works as a security guard. Hospitalized at the Cto hospital in the burns unit, he underwent surgery for the consequences of the explosion.

He had been seen running away that same night with his face severely disfigured and bleeding, but without seeking immediate help on the spot. In that confusion, when everyone present was terrified, no one had paid much attention. However, the circumstance had not emerged immediately and that disaster had seemed like an accident. The firefighters and the police had been busy first of all rescuing the injured from the rubble and checking that no one had been trapped. In any case, investigations had begun. It later emerged that he had entered the building in the middle of the night, carrying a bag with him, evidently arriving at that empty apartment, causing the explosion.

The arrest on a precautionary custody order yesterday occurred following a series of testimonies and also the footage from some cameras in the area after the firefighters had found the trigger capable of blowing up a significant part of the building. It would not have been the first time, it seems to emerge, that the man, defended by the lawyer Basilio Foti, entered the building in those days.

The man's attack was apparently a revenge attack on a woman who lives in the building, with whom he had had a romantic relationship, and who was absent at the time of the explosion because she had left for vacation. However, the explosion caused one death, Jacopo Peretti, 33 years old, for whom today in his hometown, Mazzé (Turin), there is a memorial mass, awaiting the green light from the Prosecutor's Office for the funeral. A graduate of Newton scientific high school, in Chivasso (Turin), he studied at the University's school of management and economics. He worked for an energy consultancy company and for a gym. And he was a big fan of Torino.

There were also five injured in the explosion: a 6-year-old girl, a 19-year-old girl, a 24-year-old boy, a 45-year-old woman on the same floor, and a 12-year-old boy on the floor below. Not to mention that 45 people were evacuated.

The case is open for malicious disaster and voluntary homicide.
