Emma Bonino admitted to Santo Spirito Hospital in Rome.

The 78-year-old +Europa leader was treated at home and taken by ambulance with critical illness to the emergency room of a Roman hospital. This is the same hospital where Bonino was admitted in late 2025 after falling ill.

Doctors at Santo Spirito Hospital are reportedly performing a series of tests. Bonino, it is understood, is conscious and is awaiting medical evaluation.

The historic radical figure, a protagonist in politics and civil rights battles for decades, announced in 2015 that she had been struck by lung cancer and had undergone a long course of treatment.
