Emilio Fede, a longtime figure in Italian television journalism and former director of Tg4, has died at the age of 94. His health had deteriorated in recent days. He had been hospitalized for some time at the Residenza San Felice in Segrate, just outside Milan, where he had been staying for a longer period at another healthcare facility.
Fede began his career at RAI in the 1960s as a war correspondent, later becoming director of Tg1. After moving to Fininvest , Silvio Berlusconi appointed him to direct Tg4, a role that made him one of the most recognizable figures in Italian television. His career came to a sudden halt in 2012, when he left Mediaset following his involvement in the Ruby investigation. "I fell, but I never stopped being Emilio Fede," the journalist declared in an interview.
In recent days, his condition was described as "critical," as confirmed by his daughter Sveva, who was at her father's side along with her sister Simona. "He fought like a lion; he's a warrior," she said.
