One of the best-known exponents of the anti-mafia movement in Palermo , the principal of the Giovanni Falcone school in the Zen district, Daniela Lo Verde , also awarded the title of knight of the Republic, was arrested by the carabinieri as part of an investigation coordinated by prosecutors European Gery Ferarra and Amelia Luise on charges of embezzlement and corruption.

With the complicity of the vice principal Daniele Agosta, who was also arrested, he appropriated food for the school canteen, computers, tablets and iPhones intended for pupils and purchased with European funding.
