Taxes and levies, the effects of which the average citizen will feel over time. But that's not all: the 2025 Budget (for 2026) contains a series of price increases that will have an immediate impact on consumers' pockets, especially those who drive and smoke.

For the first time, diesel could become more expensive than gasoline. The Budget Law has forecast a 4.05 cent reduction in the excise tax on unleaded fuel, the same amount as the increase on diesel. The historical ratio will be reversed, with a tank of fuel increasing by an average of 2 euros.

This measure will have a knock-on effect, even affecting shopping carts, due to transport inflation: AssoTir estimates additional fuel costs of approximately €200 million. In Italy, almost all goods travel by road: rising fuel costs will inevitably affect the prices of basic necessities.

Tobacco is not a primary commodity, but it is widely consumed. For cigarettes, the immediate increase this year is 15 cents per pack. A further 25 cents are expected in 2027, and 40 cents immediately thereafter. Rolled tobacco, on the other hand, will immediately increase by 50 cents.
