He fell off his bike while returning from a night out at the club and died from a fatal head injury. While he lay on the ground , near death, two twenty-year-olds passing by, instead of alerting emergency services, searched his pockets and stole his wallet .

It happened in Turin, in the San Salvario neighborhood: the victim is Davide Borgione, 19. Initially, investigators thought it was a hit-and-run driver, but then surveillance footage helped them unravel the mystery: a car did indeed hit him, but only after he accidentally fell. And the driver, at least according to his account, didn't notice.

In fact, the speed of his vehicle captured by the images from the cameras in the area appears constant, without acceleration or braking.

Passersby raised the alarm around 3 a.m. on Friday morning. The young man, who wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was given lengthy resuscitation by the ambulance team that arrived on the scene. He was then transported to CTO Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Next to his body was a pedal-assisted bicycle he'd rented to ride home after a night out at Milk with friends .

"He never wanted to drive because there was no parking there," recalls his father, who had to overcome another tragedy two years ago. Andrea, Davide's brother and deputy commander of the Vercelli local police, had died at 35 from a sudden illness .

Davide "was cheerful and cheerful," his father recalls. "He wanted to travel, he studied, and he had already passed his first two exams; he had another one on Monday. He had a thousand plans, but now there's nothing left." A former soccer player, he grew up with Barcanova, eventually joining FC Torinese. But Davide was also passionate about music, and under the stage name 'Borgi' he composed rap songs.

On the theft: "When they told me, I was shocked; it seemed impossible. How can you rob a dying boy on the street? How can you not think of helping him, calling for help. I'm speechless."

The two looters, who have been identified, are facing charges of theft and failure to provide assistance: "I'd rather never meet them, because they're not human. I just hope they're punished appropriately."
