The national dome, the shield, is a multi-layered protective architecture that includes space, missile, and anti-drone defense. This defense is something we've never had before and can no longer do without, requiring annual investments of approximately €4.4 billion.
This was Defense Minister Guido Crosetto's statement to the joint Senate and Chamber of Deputies Defense Committees regarding the Multi-Year Program Document. Crosetto explained that the program includes " space-based missile warning systems, advanced radars, air defense aircraft such as the GCAP, sixth-generation fighters, the next-generation Samp-T battery, and anti-drone systems."
An interoperable, multi-level system, he added, "capable of guaranteeing the protection and defense of our territory in the future, but unfortunately not now. This is something that stems from what we've seen happen in Israel and what we see every day in Ukraine."
