Exactly five months after the Crans-Montana fire , there was great joy today in Milan as young Lorenzo passed away at the Niguarda hospital where he had been admitted due to the burns he suffered during the fire.
"He's not the last, four of our young people in the burns center are continuing their painful journey back to normality," emphasized Guido Bertolaso, Regional Welfare Councilor, in a post on social media. He explained, however, that " Lollo is the one who made us most fear that one of the kids we brought home was at risk of not making it . He was a lion and overcame critical moments with great courage and determination. One particularly dramatic night, we had to transfer him to our specialized center for respiratory complications at the Policlinico, where he remained on ECMO for 10 days."
"His treatment will continue outside the hospital, but in the meantime," the councilor added, "his return home today is a joy for all of us who have cared for him and looked after him like a son. It is the success of a team effort among the best in Lombardy's healthcare system, demonstrating that only a cohesive and competent system can overcome otherwise insurmountable obstacles."
"Lollo," Bertolaso concluded, "today is back in his own world, his room, his loved ones, his computer, his books, his friends. We find in him the strength to carry on despite everything, because it is his and his parents' joyful eyes that make us feel useful to our country."
