Cases of Covid-19 in Italy continue to decline, marking a -14.9% in a week. The number of hospitalizations and intensive care is also further reduced, while the deaths of people infected with Sars-Cov-2 remain stable, equal to 394 in one week (of which 33 referring to previous periods).

This is highlighted by the independent monitoring of the Gimbe Foundation relating to the period 15-21 September, which however reiterates concerns for the resumption of the new school year, considering that "with the delta variant the current measures are insufficient to limit infections".

In the past week, the new cases were 28,676 compared to 33,712 in the previous one; the currently positive 109,513 compared to 122,340 (-10.7%); people in home isolation 105,060 compared to 117,621 (-10.7%); hospitalizations with symptoms 3,937 compared to 4,165 (-5.5%) and intensive care 516

compared to 554 (-6.9%).

"In the week 15-21 September 2021 - declares Nino Cartabellotta, president of the Gimbe Foundation - only 4 Regions recorded a percentage increase in new cases. they exceed 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants ". On the hospital front, at the national level, the occupancy rate of beds remains low (7% in the medical area and 6% in the critical area). However, regional differences remain: for the medical area Calabria (18%) and Sicily (17%) are above the threshold of 15%.

SCHOOL CONCERN - Concerns remain regarding the resumption of lessons, considering that there are 5.9% of teachers and 32% of children not yet vaccinated even with a dose.

"The real world of the school - states Cartabellotta - finds itself without a systematic screening strategy for staff and students, with rules on distancing that can be derogated from in the presence of logistical limits and without systematic interventions on aeration and ventilation, or on the management of transport. vaccination of staff and students is not enough to stem the spread of the virus and ward off DAD, especially in primary schools ".

VACCINES - In the face of stocks that exceed 10 million doses, the new vaccinates in the country collapse, which in just two weeks see a reduction of 41% with only just over 486,000 first doses carried out from 15 to 21 September.

Vaccination hesitation persists in the over 50s and slows vaccination in the 12-19 age group.

THE SITUATION IN SARDINIA - The situation on the island is even more comforting: according to the Gimbe Foundation, in the week between 15 and 21 September there are 206 cases of people currently positive for Covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants (290 between 8 and on 14 September) and there is a further halving of new infections (-43.7%) compared to the previous week when the decline was 40.3%.

Cases on a provincial basis are also decreasing: in the metropolitan city of Cagliari it goes from 70 to 38, in that of Nuoro from 58 to 34, in Southern Sardinia from 61 to 33, in the province of Sassari from 37 to 26 and in that of Oristano from 45 to 14.

The beds in the medical area (11%) and in intensive care (8%) occupied by Covid-19 patients remain stably below the saturation threshold.
