Sardinia is at the forefront of the national civil protection exercise “Exe Flegrei 2025”, underway in Naples until tomorrow, Friday 7 November .

The event, sponsored by the Department of Civil Protection and the Campania Region, also involves Sicily and sees the two islands twinned with the Campania region to welcome the population in the event of a volcanic emergency.

Yesterday, activities focused on command posts, with communication simulations between local and national coordination centers and the virtual activation of the operational coordination system. Today, the test involves the assisted removal of the population from the waiting areas of the Municipality of Naples to the city's Port – Maritime Station, where the registration and boarding systems for twinned regions, including Sardinia, will be tested.

As envisioned in the National Civil Protection Plan for the volcanic risk of the Phlegraean Fields , Sardinia will welcome the residents of the Neapolitan neighborhood of Posillipo. For this reason, officials from the Regional Civil Protection Directorate, led by Director General Mauro Merella, are already engaged in coordination, logistical planning, and discussions with the other regions involved.

Tomorrow, activities will move to the island, with a simulated arrival at the ports of Cagliari, Arbatax, and Olbia. Here, initial reception and assistance procedures will be tested, including identification, refreshment, and medical stations, set up thanks to the collaboration of the Directorate General of Health and Areus. The operational phase will begin at 11:00 a.m., preceded by training and awareness-raising initiatives aimed at high school students, who will be participating in the exercise as extras.

The national exercise represents a key opportunity to test the effectiveness of operational procedures and interregional cooperation, ensuring a prompt and coordinated response in the event of a volcanic emergency.
