They allegedly altered the medical records of Domenico Caliendo, the child who died following a heart transplant : the Naples Prosecutor's Office is bringing a new charge—forgery—against two of the seven doctors at Monaldi Hospital already under investigation for the child's death.
The two are cardiac surgeon Guido Oppido, the doctor who performed the transplant, and the second operator, Emma Bergonzoni. A preliminary investigations judge has requested a restraining order for both , and both, according to what has been learned, will be heard at the end of the month.
According to investigators (Prosecutor Giuseppe Tittaferrante, Deputy Prosecutor Antonio Ricci), the changes primarily concern the schedule. The time of arrival of the heart from Bolzano to Naples and the time of the start of the removal of little Domenico's diseased organ were changed to coincide with the start of the preparatory phases for the transplant . These schedules were not confirmed by some health workers interviewed as persons with knowledge of the facts.
