The arrest was made this morning, thanks to coordination between the police and the Guardia di Finanza, at the request of the Attorney General's Office at the Brescia Court of Appeal, with the collaboration of the Bari Public Prosecutor's Office and the District Anti-Mafia Directorate.
Morra was tracked down in his municipality of residence after having been a fugitive since February 2025 , the day after the final sentence that convicted him for the attempted robbery from the vault.
According to the investigative file, the man was the head of one of the so-called "Cerignola batteries" ready to attack armored vans .
The group, composed of 31 accomplices who allegedly carried Kalashnikovs, UZI submachine guns, pistols, and war ammunition, was stopped at the time in a warehouse near the headquarters of the security institute by the joint action of the police and the Carabinieri, with the support of the SCICO and the PEF Nucleus of Bari-Gico and the intervention of the NOCS.
Known as a leading figure in the Cerignola gang, killed by the fringes of highly criminal operations and already implicated in previous high-risk episodes of violence.
Today's arrest closes an important chapter in the fight against gangs targeting armored vehicles, which had attracted considerable national attention.
Tommaso Morra will be transferred to an appropriate prison facility, where he will have to serve the remainder of his sentence.
