Car trapped in flooded underpass, woman dies

Tragedy struck Latisana, in the province of Udine, where a woman drowned in her car, which became trapped in a flooded underpass.

A policeman , who arrived on the scene after the call to 112, jumped into the water and managed to extract her from the passenger compartment, but by then it was too late : the rescue efforts were useless.

The Carabinieri officer was hospitalized with a green code. The fire department is working on the scene with numerous crews.

The entire area between Latisana and Lignano suffered severe disruption and flooding due to the bad weather that hit between last night and this morning.
