The Government has approved a decree to deal with the emergency in the Campi Flegrei area due to the serious and constant bradyseism phenomena which are worrying citizens and institutions.
The plan consists of four points: a study on the seismicity of microzones, a risk analysis of private and public buildings and a program to intensify seismic monitoring and structures and an evacuation plan that will be drawn up - in conjunction with the Region Campania, the Prefecture of Naples, the bodies and territorial administrations involved - within ninety days from the date of entry into force of the decree.
There will be no shortage of tests and exercises. For this reason too, the installation of Civil Protection signs is planned as well as a communication plan which will also involve schools, where a million brochures have been distributed, and journalists.
The Civil Protection system will also be strengthened and temporary areas and structures will be set up for the possible reception of people.
52 million euros allocated. In the next few hours, meanwhile, the first evacuation tests will begin from the hospitals of the Campi Flegrei, while some municipalities, such as that of Pozzuoli, have already moved forward by preparing checks on the buildings they own. In Bacoli, however, the administration is creating a database of vulnerable citizens.
At the same time, the preparation of the official plan that the health committee is preparing to be implemented in case of danger will also begin. All health facilities in the affected territories are also being examined and the possibility of moving patients to other hospitals or clinics in the event of evacuation, as required by the Campania Region regulation.
The continuous aftershocks continue to keep citizens in suspense, while the mayors re-launch appeals for calm. And, after the support of the governor of Campania Vincenzo De Luca, the decree being examined by the government also finds the support of the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi. «It goes in the right direction from the point of view of the choices that are made», explains the mayor who now highlights the theme of "responsibility" so that we don't give in to alarmism. "Otherwise - he says - the damage that can occur could be even greater than that of bradyseism."
