The CGIL delegates' assembly has decided to call a general strike for Friday, December 12, against the government's budget law.
The announcement was made today during a union event in Florence, attended by General Secretary Maurizio Landini . The government's reaction was immediate and controversial.
"The CGIL has announced a general strike on December 12th. And who knows why, on a Friday of all days... We invite Landini, for once, to forgo the long weekend and organize the strike on another day of the week," wrote Transport Minister and League leader Matteo Salvini on social media.
"A new general strike by the CGIL against the government announced by General Secretary Landini. On what day of the week will December 12th fall?" Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni quipped.
