Clashes between the demonstrators, at least 500, and the police in Padua for the arrival of the president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro in the Basilica del Santo. Demonstrators threw objects at the policemen, who responded by using fire hydrants.
Bolsonaro's visit followed the one he made in Anguillara, where the Northern League mayor Alessandra Buoso awarded him honorary citizenship: "I'm happy and excited to be here. I think you can see it," he said. "My grandparents started from here - he added recalling the Paduan roots of the Bolzonaro family (which later became Bolsonaro in Brazil) of which we have news at the end of the 19th century -. I am pleased to be among the good people. I am honored to represent our family in Brazil. We are doing a great job. "
A sit-in this morning was also held in Anguillara, in that case, however, without disturbances. In Padua, however, there were tensions: two police charges and the use of fire hydrants dispersed the demonstrators who ran away from via Belludi, the main access road to the Basilica of Sant'Antonio, to flow along via Roma, one of the main arteries of the city.
During the clashes a girl was stopped, identified and taken into custody by the police at the end of the first charge. The position of the young woman is being examined by the Digos.
