"The news of the death of Pope Francis took me by surprise and caused me pain and dismay . One cannot and cannot forget 7 years of collaboration with him: 5 years as Substitute and 2 years as Prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints."
Thus Cardinal Angelo Becciu in a note to remember Pope Francis, who died at the age of 88 .
"They were years of close collaboration," adds the Sardinian prelate, "of sharing ecclesial choices and visions, but also of honest discussions, always lived in acceptance of his decisions. I cannot hide the fact that the sudden change in his judgment towards me, with the known consequences that came from it, caused me immense pain that I tried to accept as a test from the Lord . I am consoled by having maintained, despite everything, the relationship that is appropriate for someone who, receiving the cardinalate, swore to give his life for the Pope. Now he is in the light and knows the truth of the facts. I join," concludes Becciu, "with the entire Church in raising prayers of suffrage to God for his soul."
