The parents of Anna Rosa Bartolotta, the four-year-old girl who died of diphtheria in Palermo , have filed a complaint with the Palermo prosecutor's office, through lawyer Luigi Marrandino of the Naples North court, against the three hospitals that treated the little girl from August 13th to 19th: Cervello, Civico and the children's hospital (which depends on the Civico).

The parents, under investigation by the Palermo prosecutor's office for manslaughter, have appointed Professor Maurizio Municinò, a specialist in forensic medicine, hygiene, and prevention, as their expert witness.

The couple reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office "the conduct of the healthcare staff at three hospitals in Palermo." According to the parents' account, the lawyer says, "little Anna Rosa was misdiagnosed with conditions by doctors in the emergency room at Palermo's Cervello Hospital, resulting in the child receiving inadequate medical care and invasive surgical procedures, which ultimately worsened her already serious health condition, resulting in her death."

"State Police officers from the Porta Nuova police station," the lawyer continues, "have seized the medical records, which are already being examined by investigators. We are now awaiting the assignment of the task, which will be carried out by the Palermo Prosecutor's Office. This task will be aimed at carrying out the non-repeatable technical tests (autopsy) to be performed on Anna Rosa's body. These tests are necessary to establish not only the cause of death but, more importantly, the possible liability of the doctors and medical staff involved in the incident."
