Daniela Ferrari, Andrea Sempio's mother, who has been admitted to the intensive care unit at Vigevano hospital since yesterday after a drug overdose, attempted suicide. This was announced by the lawyers of the 38-year-old man under investigation for Chiara Poggi's murder, who were authorized by the family to disclose the information.

The woman, according to reports, remains in intensive care. Her condition is stable, but it's currently unclear when she'll be discharged. Despite lawyers Liborio Cataliotti and Angela Taccia's plea for a calmer tone, the woman has continued to receive hateful messages on social media and online in the past few hours.

"A wake-up call telling us it's time for everyone to tone it down," said Liborio Cataliotti, describing a painful and private matter that, in the media "monster" that the Garlasco case has become, especially after the opening of the new investigation early last year, has also become public knowledge.

The news broke yesterday: Daniela Ferrari, the clerk's mother, was rushed to the hospital in Vigevano (Pavia) for a drug overdose. This fact was disclosed by the defense team of the new defendant in the Pavia investigation, precisely to highlight the tension the 38-year-old's family has been experiencing for almost a year and a half. The 66-year-old is now in intensive care, but her life is not in danger; she immediately underwent gastric lavage.

As early as April 28, 2025, Daniela Ferrari had felt unwell when summoned to the Milan Carabinieri Provincial Headquarters to testify as a witness regarding the now-publicized receipt incident, which investigators believe was an alleged false alibi constructed by her and her husband to help their son. According to the Brescia branch of the Garlasco case, her father, Giuseppe Sempio, allegedly had the same purpose. He allegedly paid money—up to nearly €60,000, according to the prosecution—to secure a request to dismiss the first investigation into his son, dating back to 2016-2017.

This part of the investigation, coordinated by the Brescia Public Prosecutor's Office, will, however, reveal, as was revealed in recent days, the identity of former prosecutor Mario Venditti, also under investigation for corruption in judicial documents, but whose case has been dismissed. Meanwhile, the investigation is focusing on several former Carabinieri officers from Pavia.
