A 44-year-old woman, Federica Borrometi, died in the emergency room of the Giovanni Paolo II hospital in Ragusa from anaphylactic shock following a molar abscess.
The woman, originally from Naples, but a long-time resident of Scicli, had gone to the emergency room because she complained of pain in her dental arch.
The doctors therefore subjected her to a CT scan, but as mentioned, the patient went into anaphylactic shock; the attempts of the doctors are useless. The tragedy took place within hours. The director of the hospital, Raffaele Elia, has launched an internal investigation.
The contrast medium used for the CAT scan may have caused the fatal shock.
On Friday 7 July, as requested by the head of the emergency room, the existence of this hypothesis will be verified through a diagnostic check on the body which has already been seized by the judicial authorities.
