An armored van was attacked this morning on State Road 613, the highway connecting Lecce to Brindisi, near Tuturano. There was a firefight with the Carabinieri: a bullet fired by the bandits hit the windshield of a service car.

The van that was attacked belonged to the BTV company, Battistolli. The attackers parked a van across the road and set it on fire, forcing the armored vehicle to stop.

Less than an hour later, the Carabinieri of the Lecce provincial command made two arrests.

The perpetrators of the robbery, as shown in the footage, blocked the roadway by positioning cars across it and then detonated the van. Video footage captured by passing motorists shows at least six people acting with their faces covered, some wearing white overalls and carrying weapons. The robbery, it is understood, was not carried out. To escape, the criminals then allegedly robbed several passing motorists of their cars. The gang allegedly operated vehicles with flashing lights, disguised as civilian police vehicles.
