Gun attack in Acilia, southern outskirts of Rome.

The victim - reached by three bullets fired point-blank in the back - is Paolo Corelli, 48, surprised by the killer near his home.

According to the investigators, it would be a murder perhaps committed by "inexperienced hands" and in an improvised way. As proof, the fact that, despite the close range, only three of the 5 shots fired have hit the mark.

The murderer then fled on foot and is now being sought by the carabinieri, who also dig into the victim's knowledge to find a motive for the crime, which may not be directly linked to settling scores in local organized crime.

The 48-year-old is in fact cleansed. He used to work in a supermarket as an employee in the delicatessen department and the killer attacked him just as he was on his way to work.

The military is also examining the images of the surveillance cameras in the area, which could provide useful clues to shed light on the incident.
