The investigation of the Tribunal of Ministers into the Almasri case has begun. Yesterday, according to Corriere della Sera and Repubblica, the acquisition of a series of documents was requested from the Ministry of Justice, the Court of Appeal and the Attorney General of Rome.
This is the documentation needed to reconstruct what happened between the arrest of the Libyan general in a Turin hotel at dawn on January 19 - on a mandate from the International Criminal Court - and his return home on a state plane after his release from prison by the Court of Appeal in Rome on January 21. A release decided because of the failure of the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio to approve the arrest.
In addition to Minister Nordio, the file also includes Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, and the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council with responsibility for the Intelligence Services, Alfredo Mantovano.
The investigation began on the basis of a complaint by lawyer Luigi Li Gotti who had requested investigations into the alleged crimes of aiding and abetting and embezzlement, given the use of the Intelligence Service plane. Among the material acquired are the discussions between the court and the Ministry of Justice, between the International Criminal Court, the liaison office of the Italian embassy in the Netherlands and via Arenula and the draft of the provision prepared by officials of the Ministry of Justice, which remained as such and which was intended to keep the Libyan general in prison.
