Sardinian cuisine sealed the new political pact between Roberto Vannacci and Gianni Alemanno, the former mayor of Rome, who was released from Rebibbia prison after serving a sentence for influence peddling and abuse of office, as part of the "Mondo di Mezzo" investigation.
The general traveled to Rome to meet Alemanno and welcome him into his new party, Futuro Nazionale. The agreement, Ansa reports, was sealed over traditional island dishes at a restaurant on the Via Flaminia, just outside the capital.
"Vannacci is the new man of the Italian right," Alemanno said, praising Vannacci, "because he has the courage to change," unlike Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who "made the huge mistake of converting the right's need for sovereignty into conservatism."
"I'm happy for Alemanno," the general said, adding: "Here's a man returning to normal life after paying his debt to justice, and he'll return to work with us for Futuro Nazionale, for a better Italy, an Italy that belongs to Italians."
