After eight months, Lorenza Scarpante has been released from prison. She entered on May 27th on charges of murdering her husband, Giuseppe Marra, in their home on Via Zanolini in Bologna. "Eight months, a time that never passes. Eight months that felt like eight years," she told Resto del Carlino.
Scarpante was released from prison in recent days after preliminary investigations judge Claudio Paris granted the request of her defense attorneys Chiara Rizzo and Guido Todaro, citing the uncertainty of the evidentiary framework in light of the results of the expert report on the bloodstains in the apartment. "Deep down," she says, "I knew I had to react. What gave me strength was the knowledge of my innocence. And the constant thought of my children."
The investigation is still ongoing: "When it's all over, I'll shout my innocence even louder," says Scarpante. "I believe in justice. The investigation should have been done, of course, but I never imagined I'd end up in prison. But I haven't stopped believing that in the end, the truth wins. Always."
