Tragedy on the roads of the Foggia area. A young Carabiniere, Sebastiano Marrone, just 23 years old, from Buddusò, was killed in a car accident while returning to the station in his service car.

The accident occurred on Provincial Road 109, the road connecting Lucera to San Severo. For reasons still under investigation, the service vehicle driven by the officer left the roadway, crashing violently into a low wall at the side of the road. Marrone was alone in the car and would not have had time to take any action to avoid the impact.

Emergency services arrived immediately on the scene, but there was nothing they could do for the young man: paramedics could only pronounce him dead. The highway police and local Carabinieri conducted investigations to reconstruct the events of the tragic crash.

Sebastiano Marrone had been serving in the San Severo Carabinieri company for a few months, after leaving his Buddusò to pursue a career in the force.

The news of his death shocked both the Apulian community where he served and his hometown in Sardinia, where his family and friends learned of the tragedy with disbelief.

Words of condolence from Defense Minister Guido Crosetto were swift, expressing his "deep sadness at the passing of Carabiniere Sebastiano Marrone, a servant of the state who died in the line of duty" in a message published on official channels.

Undersecretary of Defense Matteo Perego di Cremnago also expressed his sympathy to the family and the Carabinieri: "A painful loss that affects us all. My deepest condolences go to the family and colleagues of the young Carabiniere."

Buddusò Mayor Massimo Satta expressed the entire community's condolences: "We are deeply shocked by this terrible news that has taken the life of one of our young fellow citizens. On behalf of all of Buddusò, I extend my sincerest sympathy to Sebastiano's parents and family at this time of enormous grief."
