An archive of horror in the phone of Manuel Iannuzzi, the 42-year-old arrested this morning for the death of little Beatrice, two and a half years old, daughter of his partner Emanuela , who has also been in prison since February 9th, the day of the little girl's death.
On the man's smartphone, the Carabinieri saw photos of the little girl with a swollen face, and other images showing her after the beatings .
And a video deemed particularly significant by investigators, in which the little girl is forced to smoke a cigarette while the adults laugh and she bursts into tears . The little girl bursts into tears and refuses, while the adults present continue to joke and laugh. An episode that, according to investigators, documents the climate of oppression and cruelty in which the little girl was forced to live.
According to the judge who ordered the child's pre-trial detention, contained in a 33-page order, the evidence gathered is "extremely serious." The order describes conduct characterized by "atrocious methods," the "savage intensity" of the beatings, and a "cruel disposition," in a context defined as "vexatious abuse" against the child.
Investigators also believe that, in the hours preceding her death, the little girl was not taken to the hospital despite her already critical condition. The calls for help apparently came only after the child was already dead , in what the Prosecutor's Office considers an attempt to fake a call for help and mislead the investigation. Iannuzzi was arrested at dawn by the Carabinieri.
The child's mother is also charged with aggravated child abuse following the child's death . According to the investigation, the woman had been traveling in the car with her daughter, who was already dead for hours before raising the alarm . Initially, to explain the bruises on her little body, she claimed her daughter had fallen down the stairs. But she was immediately arrested. She has always defended her partner, but today, following an investigation that also included surveillance cameras that captured the woman leaving her new partner's house that morning with her three daughters (and Beatrice, who was already dead), Iannuzzi has also been arrested .
Immediately on February 9th, emergency responders arriving at the scene noticed the bruises, calling in the Carabinieri and the medical examiner. The autopsy later confirmed injuries to the back, abdomen, legs, and lips, as well as a head trauma that caused the cerebral hemorrhage, the cause of death.
The little girl's two sisters also recounted other chilling details of what happened that morning: "To make her recover, they held her under water, then they gave her sugar." The girls, removed from their family and placed in a protected facility, began a psychological treatment that led to an "incredible improvement."
