The provisional toll of a road accident in Mazara del Vallo involving a school bus headed to Borgata Costiera and a Nissan Qashqai is 19 injured, including 14 children.
The school bus was carrying students from the Santa Gemma-Boscarino-Pirandello school, accompanied by municipal assistants. Among the injured were two teachers, the two assistants on the bus, and the driver of the car.
Two students were transferred by 118 helicopter to the children's hospital in Palermo: one has a fractured wrist and the other has abdominal trauma.
The firefighters, state police, municipal police, and several 118 ambulances responded immediately. The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment and checks.
Investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. According to reports, the 51-year-old driver was unlicensed and uninsured.
