A horrific accident on the A1 between Arezzo and Valdarno left three dead and 18 injured.

According to the emergency medical service, the three deceased were all aboard an ambulance involved in a collision with a truck, along with other vehicles. Of the 18 injured, one is a red code, four yellow, and ten green.

" Two ambulance volunteers and the patient they were transporting lost their lives," Governor Eugenio Giani explained on Telegram, expressing "the Tuscany Region's deepest condolences to the families of the victims." The victims were Gianni Trappolini (56) and Giulia Santoni (23), who died in the crash along with the patient in the ambulance.

The two emergency helicopters, Pegaso 1 and Pegaso 2, and support vehicles from Florence, as well as the medical car from Arezzo, paramedics, firefighters, and law enforcement, intervened on the scene.

Major emergency protocol activated. Long lines on the affected stretch of road, with cars backed up for approximately 6 kilometers.

According to an initial reconstruction of the incident, the vehicles involved were all traveling in the same direction (initially it was assumed that a heavy vehicle had "jumped" lane): a lorry, the ambulance that was hit by the trailer of the articulated lorry, a car towing a caravan and a truck.
