A 46-year-old soldier from Cagliari, Matteo Ambu, lost his life this morning in a tragic accident in Jesolo , in the Veneto region. Local Veneto press reports.
The tragedy occurred around 6 a.m. on Via Roma Destra, while the man—a resident of Cavallino Treporti—was driving to work.
A plane tree collapsed onto the roof of the vehicle, crushing the soldier and leaving him no chance of escape . The 46-year-old, married with children, died instantly.
Despite the immediate intervention of emergency responders, including firefighters, there was nothing that could be done for the 46-year-old. The Jesolo Carabinieri also responded to the scene, and investigations are ongoing. The tree was removed and seized. According to later findings, not the entire trunk of the plane tree fell on the roof of the vehicle, but only a portion: the driver's side, where the soldier was found to have been smashed. The car subsequently also collided with another tree further ahead .
Via Roma Destra, where the accident occurred, is a road managed by the Metropolitan City of Venice. Initial reports suggest the soldier was traveling from Cavallino-Treporti to Jesolo to reach Padua, where he is stationed, and begin his shift.
