Eight doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers are under investigation in the Lecce Prosecutor's Office's investigation into the death of Danilo Pellegrino, the 52-year-old man from Collepasso who died on September 3rd in the emergency room of Casarano hospital, where he had presented himself, accompanied by his wife, with severe chest pains.

The prosecutor in charge of the investigation has registered the names of eight people who were working that afternoon in the emergency room and cardiology departments of the Salento hospital as suspects. The alleged crime is contributory negligence for death in a healthcare setting.

The man died from worsening conditions while awaiting treatment by a cardiologist and—according to his wife's report to the Carabinieri— he unsuccessfully urged the doctors, claiming he was unwell. The autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, September 8th, by coroner Roberto Vaglio.
