"A man doesn't die alone. You should die with your loved ones. So no one has to suffer for anyone." This was written on Facebook by Shahadat Hossain, 43 , born in Bangladesh, an asylum seeker awaiting a residence permit from the Frosinone Police Headquarters. The post was published before the massacre for which he is accused and wanted. The killer's hours are numbered; the police have released a photo to facilitate the search .

On Friday evening, the 43-year-old was seen fleeing on foot from the building on Via Montiglio where the massacre took place, where shortly beforehand Islam Arowa, 8, and his parents, Kamal Uddin Babul and Jahan Hosne Momotay, 39 and 38, had been hacked to death with an axe. The only person to escape the massacre was the couple's 20-year-old son. He fought with the attacker, who also attacked him, before fleeing. The boy ran into the street to ask for help and is now hospitalized at the Gemelli hospital with a guarded prognosis, suffering from widespread trauma to various parts of his body, including a serious head injury.

The massacre is believed to have occurred in two phases. Initially, Hossain went, as he did almost every day, to the apartment on Via Montiglio and attempted to approach Kamal's wife, but was rebuffed. Then, in retaliation, he allegedly took the axe and killed the woman and her daughter , before they had time to scream for help.

Then he either lingered cleaning the apartment or waited for Kamal Huddin to return from work with his son so he could kill them too . What is certain is that he immediately killed the father, then engaged in a fight with the son, who managed to escape into the street despite his injuries. Then he fled.

The motive

The suspected motive is an unrequited obsession with Jahan Hosne Momotay, Kamal's wife . The killer was a frequent visitor to the family, and neighbors had recently been seeing him in the area more and more often. He helped the woman carry her groceries home, and according to some witnesses, he even followed her when she went out: he would enter, without consuming anything, the shop where the victim took her daughter for ice cream .

The alarm and the investigations

The alarm was raised when neighbors heard screams coming from the first-floor apartment where the family of Bangladeshi origin lived. Someone also reportedly saw a man running away and disappearing into the darkness within moments. When ambulances arrived, there was nothing more that could be done for 39-year-old Kamal Uddin, his wife Hosne Jahan Momotaj, and their daughter Arowa . Their eldest son, however, was found in front of the apartment building's front door and rushed to the hospital.

Suspicions immediately focused on the couple's acquaintances, and quickly emerged that the motive was harassment, and the hunt for Shahadat Hossain began. Several compatriots, who he claimed to be staying with at the time, were interviewed. Yesterday afternoon, a raid was also carried out on a train stopped at Bologna station after a report of a man resembling the suspect was received, but it turned out to be a false alarm .

Dismay in the neighborhood

There is shock over what happened in the Casalotti neighborhood, where everyone knew Kamal and loved him . Many remember him for his work outside a supermarket, helping customers bag products and carry their groceries. "He brought me coffee three times a day; he was extremely kind," says a shopkeeper. "I'm the newest arrival in the neighborhood, but he had been here for 15 years and everyone knew him. His son helped me by making some deliveries for me." He then adds: "His wife and young daughter had recently arrived in Italy, less than a year. Kamal had made so many sacrifices to reunite his family; it's a tragedy."

And on social media, messages of condolence are growing by the hour in neighborhood chat rooms, where a fundraiser has also been launched to help the surviving son. "A good boy, Kamal raised and educated, it's right to help him," writes one resident.
