A fatal accident occurred overnight around 3:30 a.m. on a provincial road in Brescello, in the Reggio Emilia area. According to reports, for reasons yet to be determined, a Volkswagen Passat struck two young men riding bicycles. A 19-year-old man, Giovanni Zaccaria Abden, originally from and resident in Pontedera, in the Pisa area, died in the impact. Attempts to resuscitate him by 118 paramedics were unsuccessful.
The second young man, an 18-year-old also originally from and resident in Pontedera, was injured. He was conscious when rescued and was rushed to the emergency room of Parma Hospital.
The car was driven by a 43-year-old man, originally from Naples and resident in Sorbolo Mezzani, in the Parma province. Carabinieri from the Cadelbosco sopra Crostolo station responded to the scene to conduct required investigations and manage traffic. The vehicles involved in the accident were seized and towed away by roadside assistance.
