A 94-year-old man died this evening due to a fire that broke out in the kitchen of his home in Giussago (Pavia), while he was preparing dinner.

According to initial investigations, the pensioner was near the stove when a saucepan fell. The boiling liquid ignited a flame. The 94-year-old fell to the floor and lost consciousness.

The alarm was raised immediately. Emergency services arrived on the scene, but there was nothing they could do: the elderly man died from his burns and from inhaling smoke from the flames. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which remained confined to the kitchen.
